My name is Margaret and I’m from Chapel Hill, NC. I enjoy watching good movies, hanging out with friends, and eating good foods. At Duke I volunteer for science olympiad and play cello in the pit orchestra of the musicals with the group hoof n horn. I have two doggos at home and will sometimes hang out in front of Bio Sci just to see the dogs go in and out. My family has always been a big fan of disney movies and disney world, which is probably why I love both so much.
I really enjoy watching disney movies, and I’m actually quite interested in the source material that accompanies them, so learning more about it seems really interesting to me. In my english classes in high school we did some analysis of movies (analyzing Get Out was super trippy), and I always enjoyed it. I am of course interested in improving my writing, so I figured that doing so while watching disney movies would be agreeable.
I am quite interested in the progression of the female role in disney movies, which one of the reasons I love Mulan so much. I am also quite interested in the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, which made watching movies like Tangled very fun since I already knew the backstory and could compare. I think analyzing why disney made the choices they did in abridging or changing the stories from their source material will tell us a lot about how disney views their target audience.
