Hi, my name is Robert Lordi, and I am an aspiring Economics major from Boston, MA.
I have lived just outside of the city, in Dover, with my family (including my twin sister, Hannah,
and my younger brother, Jack) for my entire life. Before enrolling in Duke University, I
attended a small, Catholic, all-boys high school called St. Sebastian’s -- a place that I truly
consider my second home.
As for my interests, I have always been drawn to athletics. In fact, I played
cross country, football, basketball, baseball, and ultimate frisbee over the course of my four
years of high school. I am always happy either to watch or participate in an athletic event,
and I have found that both of these actions have allowed me to cultivate relationships with
family and friends.
Admittedly, Disney movies -- and movies in general -- have never really captured my
interest. I generally enjoy the movies I do watch, but I will rarely decide to watch a movie
on my own. Part of the reason why I decided to enroll in this specific writing course
was to gain the opportunity to watch more movies. Moreover, I have always wanted
to appreciate more than simply the plot of movies. I have always felt that there is a lot to
movies hidden beneath the surface, and I am hoping this course will open my eyes to
the less obvious qualities of movies.

A final reason why I took the course is related to Disney’s purchasing of the rights to
Marvel. During my final year of high school, with the recent surge in the production of Marvel
movies, a group of friends and I became interested in the Marvel Universe, and we made
it a point to see as many of the new movies as we could. Therefore, I would love to work with
(or at the very least stay updated on) Marvel movies in this course. Also, after having read
Zipes and Giroux, I would be interested to work with some of the Disney/Pixar movies
that were made during or around my lifetime (such as Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., Tarzan, etc.)
to see if they maintain the same conservative agenda as the early Disney movies.
That's all for now. Thank you for reading!
