Hi! My name is Lindsay Santiago from Durham, North Carolina. My entire family is from Puerto Rico, and therefore I am Puerto Rican and visit them over there most summers. I was born in Lafayette, Indiana but don't have much recollection of my time there. For the majority of my life, I grew up in Durham, North Carolina, and therefore the transition to Duke was fairly easy with it only being about 10 minutes away from my home. I am currently on the pre-med track and plan to be a Global Health and Biology double major. My hope is to one day become a pediatric oncologist and my time at Duke will help me achieve this goal. I really enjoy watching tv shows and movies, drawing and painting, listening to music, singing (although I am not very good), dancing, and traveling.
For as long as I can remember, I have been in love with and fascinated by Disney. I grew up watching Disney channel shows, watching Disney movies, singing the songs, and reading the stories. The first time I went to Disney World, I was with all of my cousins on my mom's side of the family and remember it being one of the best vacations I'd ever had. I have seen most of the Disney movies and know all the words to almost all the songs. My favorite Disney movie when I was younger was always Beauty and the Beast, but I loved so many more. Currently I have 2 younger siblings: a 9 year old sister and a 6 year old brother who mean the world to me. They also grew up loving and watching Disney movies, so every once in a while we have a Disney movie night.
I also really enjoy watching the Marvel movies. Watching the new Marvel movies was always an activity I did with my dad when they premiered. Since Disney now owns Marvel, it only increases my love for it.
I had a moderate experience with English in high school. I am not particularly fond of writing, but as it is a necessary skill that I need to develop, what better way than to do it on topic that I really enjoy? In this course I hope to build on my analytical skills and writing skills. I also look forward to learning the true meanings behind some of the most beloved Disney movies that I grew up watching.
