Introduction

Hi my name is Orianna Poteete, and I am from a small town outside of Huntsville, Alabama. I love many different forms of art, and willingly spend numerous hours a day reading different books, specifically of the science fiction genre. I have two younger brothers that both desperately want to come to Duke, and beg me for Duke Basketball souvenirs whenever I see them. Back at home my family and I have five pets, six if you count the stray cat that practically lives there. There are the two cats, the dog, and the two bearded dragons, who all I miss while I am here. At Duke I am a part of the Focus Genetics and Genomics group for the class of 2022, and participate in two different dance groups: Duke Ballroom and Devils En Pointe. I am a prospective double major in Biology and Chemistry as well as on the Pre-Med track.

I can not say that I have had a great English/Literature background from high school, however I can say that my professors from Focus helped my writing skills a great deal. We did very few book/movie analysis in high school, rather they spent the majority of time on writing the standard five paragraph essay every class for months. I can gladly report that I am quite interested to be able to analyze these movies and books because it is different from what I am used to, and I love new challenges to overcome.

I am a ginormous Disney fan, I just have not had the opportunity or time to fully go through all the movies, but I love the classic disney movies the most. Due to various reasons, I have not been back to Disney World since I was seven years old, but the memories I made there are some of my fondest from my childhood. I cannot wait to see where the semester leads.
